The Cypress Creek Coyotes will head out to take on the Pasco Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cypress Creek's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Pasco's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Last Thursday, Cypress Creek was able to grind out a solid win over Nature Coast Tech, taking the game 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Coyotes.
Cooper Neale tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.
At the plate, Gavyn Mullis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season. Everett Burgess was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pasco, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Zephyrhills on Friday as Pasco made off with a 9-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
Andrew Blommel and Boomer Newton were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Blommel struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Newton tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Blommel went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Newton went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Newton a new career-high in doubles.
In other batting news, Carson Wheatley and Jonah Carlyle did most of the damage at the plate: Wheatley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Carlyle scored a run while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Carlyle a new career-high in hits (four). Another player making a difference was Jayce Rollins, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Pasco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zephyrhills only posted an OBP of .276.
Pasco's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Cypress Creek, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cypress Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pasco struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cypress Creek was able to grind out a solid victory over Pasco in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cypress Creek since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
