Austin has gone 8-2 against Albert Lea recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Packers will host the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Austin and eight for Albert Lea dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Austin came up short against Red Wing and fell 5-2.
Kaydence Schaefer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, Katelyn Klouse and Lauren Bowe did some serious damage despite the final result: Klouse scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Bowe scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Klouse also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alexis Brede, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Albert Lea was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They fell just short of Stewartville by a score of 2-1. That's two games in a row now that Albert Lea has lost by just one run.
Albert Lea also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Makenzie Johnson gave up just two earned runs on three hits.
On the hitting side, Albert Lea saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiera Erickson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Austin now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Albert Lea, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Austin's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Packers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Albert Lea, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Austin continue to outrun the ball?
Austin might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Albert Lea when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Packers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
