Basketball Recap: Calvary Baptist Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Calvary Baptist Christian Academy scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to the Maranatha Christian Academy Huskies. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskies earlier this season, when they won 55-47.

It was another big night for Dakota Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 44 points and 13 rebounds for Maranatha Christian Academy. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Nelson has scored at least a third of Maranatha Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Rayce Bell, who posted six points and eight boards.

Calvary Baptist Christian Academy dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Maranatha Christian Academy, they moved to 4-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Baptist Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on First Baptist Christian at 6:30 p.m. on February 4th. Maranatha Christian Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Faith Bible Christian Academy/Mid-America Prep at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th.
