Lawrenceburg is 7-1 against Union County since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers will square off against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lawrenceburg has eight straight victories, Union County has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Lawrenceburg took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Connersville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Spartans 2-1 on Monday.
Lawrenceburg's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Dustin Shaw, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Union County came up short against East Central on Saturday, falling 14-4. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by exactly ten runs.
Dalton Creech and Cam Salsbery did some serious damage despite the final result: Creech went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Salsbery got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Union County is 2-1 when Creech posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise.
Lawrenceburg pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Union County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lawrenceburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Union County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lawrenceburg skirted past Union County 3-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
