Cinco Ranch had won three straight home games and Natalie Wolskij did her part to make it four on Thursday. Everything went the Cougars' way against Paetow as they made off with a 3-0 victory for which the team can thank Wolskij, who had 17 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last ten games she's played.
Cinco Ranch's got stronger as the match went on, holding Paetow to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Tompkins made easy work of Morton Ranch on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 win.
One reason for the win was Tompkins' just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-9, 25-7.
Cinco Ranch better focus on containing Lainey Monroe and Drew Merrell as the pair were huge in Tompkins' win. Monroe had nine digs and five aces, while Merrell had 23 assists and three digs. Those five aces gave Monroe a new career-high.
Tompkins was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in seven consecutive matches.
Cinco Ranch's record is now 14-18. As for Tompkins, their record now sits at 30-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Cinco Ranch has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Tompkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Cinco Ranch might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Tompkins when the teams last played back in September. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
