The Fleming Colonels will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Matoaca Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Fleming rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mavericks and snuck past 23-20. 23 seems to be a good number for Fleming as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Matoaca can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They breezed by Godwin at home to the tune of 36-0. Given Matoaca's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Godwin is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matoaca's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Montino Williams jr led the charge by rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Dillon Newton-short was in the mix too, providing Matoaca with two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Fleming to 8-4 and Freeman to 8-4.
