The Moorpark Musketeers will square off against the Simi Valley Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Moorpark is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Moorpark beat Oak Park 7-4. The win continues a trend for the Musketeers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.
Kiley Finnerty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nathalie Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Amarie Bolen also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Moorpark lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Park didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Simi Valley entered their tilt with Camarillo on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Scorpions. The game was the first time the Pioneers have beaten the Scorpions on their field since May 18, 2021.
Simi Valley also got a great performance from Parker Ong as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Arianna Ochoa and Hayden Chang did most of the damage at the plate: Ochoa went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Chang went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Aurora Zepeda, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Moorpark's record is now 14-5. As for Simi Valley, their record now sits at 16-7-1.
Simi Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Moorpark has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Simi Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Moorpark keep running through batters, or will the Pioneers buck the trend?
Moorpark skirted past Simi Valley 9-8 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Musketeers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
