Cypress Creek is 0-10 against Lake Nona since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bears will take on the Lions in a tournament on Wednesday. Cypress Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Cypress Creek and Winter Park, and Winter Park kept the tradition alive. The Bears came up short against the Wildcats on Monday, falling 11-1. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Meanwhile, Lake Nona got the win against Colonial on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-6. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won three matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Maria Trujillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Trujillo was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Alexandra Rodriguez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Valeria Rivera, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Lake Nona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Lake Nona pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.8 runs this season. As for Cypress Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cypress Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Lake Nona struggles in that department as they've averaged .400. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cypress Creek might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Lake Nona when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
