Oak Grove has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Seaforth Hawks at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oak Grove will be strutting in after a victory while Seaforth will be coming in after a defeat.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Oak Grove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past High Point Central with a 65-60 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Oak Grove relied on the efforts of Loucas Shoaf, who scored 21 points, and JB Shabazz, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. The matchup was Shabazz's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Peyton Parker was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Seaforth's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Hillside 66-29. While losing is never fun, Seaforth can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 361st, while Hillside is ranked 169th).
Oak Grove now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Seaforth, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
