Mary Taylour Wilbourn made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 14 matchups.
In other batting news, Olivia Lashley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Ella Harris also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, South Panola got the win against Lake Cormorant on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-2. Considering the Tigers have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Grenada, South Panola also got a great game from a two-way player: Grady Beck Wilson. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wilson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, South Panola let Hailey Heafner and Kailey McKinney run wild. Heafner scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while McKinney scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kaleigh Cobb, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
South Panola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive contests.
South Panola pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Grenada, their record is now 10-6.
Grenada suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to South Panola in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Grenada avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
