The South Pike Eagles will head out to challenge the Seminary Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
South Pike barely beat Amite County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. The Eagles not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21st.
Demiquis Anders was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Weatherspoon, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Seminary, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Northeast Jones with a sharp 10-0 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 17 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Dan Sinclair made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Sinclair was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jomarrion 'JoJo' Flowers, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Slade Moulds was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Seminary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast Jones only posted an OBP of .222.
Seminary's win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for South Pike, they moved to 6-9-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Pike hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Seminary struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
