There's no place like home for the Downey Knights, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They managed a 61-55 win over Pitman on Wednesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Downey's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while Pitman is ranked 250th).
Downey got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Reuben Lewis out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sumer Pannu, who scored 17 points.
Pitman lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Justin Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cole Martin, who scored 18 points.
Downey's win bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Pitman, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-7.
Downey will head out on the road to face off against Modesto at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Downey is facing Modesto at the right time seeing as Modesto is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Pitman, they will be playing at home against Turlock at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pitman has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 312 points over their last five games.
