The Key West Conchs's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Gulliver Prep Raiders on February 5th. Key West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 559th, while the Raiders are ranked 183rd).
Last Tuesday, Key West was beaten by the Bears 77-39. Key West has not had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Meanwhile, Gulliver Prep waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 45-34 win over Archbishop McCarthy. That's two games straight that Gulliver Prep has won by exactly 11 points.
Gulliver Prep found their leader in underclassman Mikayla Brown, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Brown continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Caitlen Dauphin was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Key West's defeat was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Gulliver Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Key West beat the Raiders 61-49 in their previous matchup back in February of 2021. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Gulliver Prep's Madison Aguilera, who scored 41 points. Now that she won't be playing on Monday, will it be that much easier for Key West to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
