Dominico Chavez of Volcano Vista ran for the longest rushing play in 5A District 1 this season against Del Norte last week. Chavez scampered for 61 yards on the play and finished with 138 on the day as his team topped the Knights.
Rio Rancho extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Eldorado, 39-38. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Rams.
Volcano Vista's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Reid Hendricks threw for 38 and two touchdowns and Derek Cravens had 43 yards receiving. Josh Lubold helped Volcano Vista's passing attack out by catching one ball for 23 yards.
Michael Budick made the biggest impact on defense this week as Chad Wallin's team topped Del Norte. The junior grabbed two sacks.
Rio Rancho's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Easton Bruere has thrown for 1710 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while Austin Patterson has 31 catches for 468 yards. Ulises Astorga leads the league in rushing with 844 yards.
The Hawks took down Bruce Binkley's team 47-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hendricks ran for four yards in the win.
