The Betsy Layne Bobcats pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Floyd Central. While losing is never fun, Betsy Layne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Floyd Central is ranked 31st).
Betsy Layne's loss came despite strong showings from Andrew Kidd and Carter Parsons. Kidd scored 22 points along with seven rebounds, while Parsons dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Kidd's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Martin, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Floyd Central had a senior duo take command as Ronnie Samons scored 17 points along with five rebounds and Braden Moore scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Samons also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Dylan Boyd was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Betsy Layne's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Floyd Central, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Betsy Layne will head out on the road to face off against Leslie County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Floyd Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lyon County at 7:30 p.m. on December 16th. Lyon County is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
