It was a good run, but the Notre Dame Academy Gators unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 77-65 to St. Thomas Aquinas. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Notre Dame Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caitlin Sweeney, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sweeney has scored all season. Sabrina Kraker was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Notre Dame Academy's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-3. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Notre Dame Academy will take on Petrides at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Petrides will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Notre Dame Academy is ranked 20th). As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against East Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
