The Nantahala Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Robbinsville at home and fell 63-26. Nantahala was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-12.
Despite the loss, Nantahala saw an underclassman step up: Zoey Passmore scored 18 points. That was a full 69.2% of Nantahala's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney McLean, who scored six points.
Nantahala's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-8. As for Robbinsville, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nantahala won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cherokee at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Cherokee knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Nantahala likes a good challenge. As for Robbinsville, they will be playing at home against Copper Basin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
