The Clay County Panthers will face off against the Midland Trail Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Midland Trail took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Clay County, who comes in off a win.
While Clay County's victory against Webster County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers skirted past the Highlanders 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since April 14th.

Pierce Adkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clay County is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-10 otherwise. Adkins was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 21 games he's played.
In other pitching news, Clay County gave Collin Elliott the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Elliott has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Adkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eli Metheney, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Midland Trail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They fell 4-1 to James Monroe. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by exactly three runs.
Midland Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Clay County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.
Everything went Clay County's way against Midland Trail when the teams last played back in April, as Clay County made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
