The Perry Pumas are taking a road trip to challenge the O'Connor Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Perry will be strutting in after a win while O'Connor will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Perry turned things around against Hamilton on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Huskies 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pumas have posted since February 26th.
Perry saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julianna Nava, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Nava has posted since back in March.
Perry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, O'Connor's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 14-10 to Pinnacle.
Raegan Holtorf and Charleigh Schuettler did some serious damage despite the final result: Holtorf fired off two home runs and one double while going 4-for-5, while Schuettler went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Holtorf has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Gourlay, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Perry now has a winning record of 9-8. As for O'Connor, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Perry hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like O'Connor struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Perry took their victory against O'Connor when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-2 score. Will the Pumas repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
