The Rushville Lions will square off against the New Palestine Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rushville gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Oldenburg Academy. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Trey Newman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Hunter Cowan also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Rushville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, New Palestine waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jacob Morris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Morris was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Neal, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Rigg Mahurin, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
New Palestine's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Rushville, their record now sits at 6-15.
