Basketball Recap: Fort Myers Comes Up Short

Fort Myers lost against Lehigh back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Fort Myers Green Wave fell just short of the Lehigh Lightning by a score of 47-44. The Green Wave just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Fort Myers lost, don't look at Skye Douglas. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 13 on her way to 16 points along with eight steals and six boards. Douglas is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Monica Mercado, who went 8 of 14 en route to 19 points.

Even though they lost, Fort Myers was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Rianne Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lehigh, going 8 of 15 on her way to 37 points and five steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Lehigh's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Terryah Lawson, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Fort Myers' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7. As for Lehigh, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-7.

Fort Myers will venture away from home to face off against Mariner at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lehigh, they will host South Fort Myers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Mariah Thorne and Smith.
