Maple Valley is 1-6 against Springport since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Maple Valley Lions will head out to square off against the Springport Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Maple Valley is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game back in December of 2024. They were beaten by Stockbridge 67-33. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 541st, while the Panthers are ranked 246th).
Despite the defeat, Maple Valley had strong showings from Ines Sanchez Feito, who posted 19 points along with six steals and five boards, and Mariah Vandorp, who earned seven points. That was a full 57.6% of Maple Valley's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Springport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 45-37 defeat to Stockbridge.
Maple Valley will need focus on slowing down Reese Siefert, one of several Springport players who made an impact when they last played. She posted nine points.
Even though they lost, Springport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 29 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Maple Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Springport, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Maple Valley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29 boards per game. However, it's not like Springport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Maple Valley was taken down by Springport 58-1 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Springport's Chloey Speer, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 17 points and six steals. Now that Maple Valley knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
