Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] recap September 24, 2013
Portage's Caleb Kephart recorded the longest rushing play in Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] this season in his game against Meyersdale last week. Kephart ran for 86 yards on the play and finished with 255 on the day as his team bested the Red Raiders.
Conemaugh Township scaled the state rankings by moving to 516 from 546 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Indians climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Chartiers-Houston 31-16.
Windber's dynamic duo of Jake Podrasky and Matt Barkley proved to be unstoppable against Blacklick Valley, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Podrasky threw for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns and Barkley had 152 yards receiving.
The Ramblers' dynamic duo of Podrasky and Barkley proved tough for the Vikings to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Kephart was a beast in the backfield as Portage topped Meyersdale.
Kephart was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Luke Dividock added to the ground attack by rushing for 108 yards.
Podrasky put up the best numbers through the air as Windber bested Blacklick Valley.
Barkley was the best receiver in Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] this week as Matt Grohal's team topped Bill Zamboni's team.
He went 7-12 with 1 interception.
Kephart was a passing and rushing force as Gary Gouse's team topped Chris Schrock's team. Kephart's key target this week was Joe Randazzo, who caught 4 passes for 88 yards.
The Ramblers' Devon Tomlinson and Barkley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Tomlinson has thrown for 511 yards this season, while Barkley, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 25 catches for 405 yards. Berlin Brothersvalley's Braden Fochtman leads the league in rushing yards with 733.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when North Star takes on the Mountaineers. At the moment, the Cougars are in fourth, while Berlin Brothersvalley is in first.
Doug Paul's team added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Conemaugh Valley, 48-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
