Basketball Recap: Commerce Sets Scoring Season-High Against Elbert County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Commerce). They strolled past the Elbert County Blue Devils with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 77-60. The Tigers pushed the score to 59-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Blue Devils cut but never quite recovered from.

Commerce's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Peters, who went 6 of 7 en route to 17 points and seven boards. That's the most points Peters has posted since back in February of 2024. Essien Lockleer was another key player, as he made all 6 shots he took to post 15 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.

Commerce was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elbert County only racked up four assists.

Grady Jones and Aj Brown certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Jones posted 19 points, while Brown went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points. Jones' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Morrison, who scored ten points and five boards.

Commerce's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Elbert County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Commerce has already played their next match (against Oglethorpe County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Elbert County will face off against Banks County at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Elbert County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten games.
