Even though the Spring Valley Vikings scored an imposing 61 points on Friday, the Westwood Redhawks still came out on top. Westwood secured a 65-61 W over Spring Valley. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Spring Valley is ranked 88th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Westwood to victory were Dontae Walters and TJ Bell. Walters dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, while Bell scored 21 points along with seven steals and five assists. The match was Bell's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zion Brown, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Westwood's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Spring Valley, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westwood is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Chapin at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. As for Spring Valley, they will square off against Ridge View at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridge View will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
