The California Grizzlies will head out to take on the James Logan Colts at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. California is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
California proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by six) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past San Ramon Valley 4-3.
Gabriella Nudo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, California's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hailey King, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI King has posted since back in March.
James Logan couldn't beat Newark Memorial on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Colts fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 8-6. Surprisingly, this marked the Colts' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Janessa Parras and Nevaeh Hall-Flores did some serious damage despite the final result: Parras went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Hall-Flores went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Ava Medellin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
California pushed their record up to 15-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for James Logan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-5-1 record this season.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. California hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like James Logan struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
California beat James Logan 5-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
