The Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers can finally bid farewell to their 18-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 45-14 win over Athens Christian. The victory was just what Mount de Sales Academy needed coming off of a 49-17 defeat in their prior match.
Mount de Sales Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caleb Linder, who rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. Marcus Wilson and his 82 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Mount de Sales Academy's win.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Athens Christian to a paltry 182 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mount de Sales Academy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Joshua Pettigrew and his two sacks.
When it comes to explaining why Athens Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryson Campbell. Despite the final result, he picked up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mount de Sales Academy's win bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Athens Christian, their defeat was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10.
Mount de Sales Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Athens Christian will head out on the road to face off against Prince Avenue Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Prince Avenue Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Athens Christian in Georgia (Prince Avenue Christian is ranked 34th, while Athens Christian is ranked 459th).
