The Martinsville Artesians struggled with assists on Friday (the Plainfield Quakers had 1600% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Martinsville's rough 75-52 loss to Plainfield might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Martinsville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Plainfield is ranked 31st).
Martinsville's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Grady Gardner, who scored 24 points along with 5 rebounds, and Hunter Stroud who scored 18 points. Gardner scored a full 46.2% of Martinsville's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Plainfield found their leader in underclassman Harper Baker-lands, who scored 15 points along with 9 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Ellis, who scored 16 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Martinsville and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Plainfield, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Martinsville has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Center Grove at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Plainfield won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Zionsville at 7:30 p.m. on December 9th.
