Basketball Recap: Lake Mary Prep Piles Up the Points Against Holy Cross Lutheran Academy

On Friday, the Lake Mary Prep Griffins humbled the Holy Cross Lutheran Academy Crusaders with a 70-34 victory. The Griffins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 22 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Mary Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Payne Fitzmaurice, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points along with five assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Fitzmaurice a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Reyes, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Lake Mary Prep pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Holy Cross Lutheran Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Mary Prep will take on Bridge to Independence in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bridge to Independence will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Lake Mary Prep surely won't give up without a fight. As for Holy Cross Lutheran Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Orangewood Christian at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
