Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Hopewell

Hopewell entered their tilt with West Mecklenburg on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawks a 16-0 shutout. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Titans also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Ellie Wicks made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wicks was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Hopewell let Alexis McLaughlin and Samantha Jones run wild. McLaughlin scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Jones went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Jones has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Pless, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Hopewell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Hopewell's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for West Mecklenburg, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Hopewell will head out on the road to challenge North Mecklenburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Mecklenburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mallard Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mallard Creek has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.44 runs per game on average), something West Mecklenburg will no doubt try to take advantage of.
