Mater Dei has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the MICDS Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Mater Dei didn't have too much trouble with the Wildcats at home as they won 62-43. Mater Dei pushed the score to 51-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats cut but never quite recovered from.
Drake Wagner was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with two steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mater Dei's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Lampe, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, MICDS put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 61-60 victory over Central. The score was all tied up 27-27 at the break, but MICDS was the better team in the second half.
Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 13-14. As for MICDS, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Mater Dei couldn't quite finish off the Rams when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 65-62. Can Mater Dei avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
