After a string of three wins, San Tan Foothills's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 73-63 loss to the Walden Grove Red Wolves. The Sabercats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Red Wolves from their previous meeting back in November of 2022.
Several Sabercats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Khrys Gray, who posted 23 points. Julius Carlisle was another key player, putting up 19 points.
Walden Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caden Green led the charge by posting 23 points. The dominant performance gave Green a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Kuti George, who put up 17 points.
San Tan Foothills' loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5. As for Walden Grove, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.
San Tan Foothills will welcome Payson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Tan Foothills knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Payson likes a good challenge. As for Walden Grove, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 76-54 defeat against Bradshaw Mountain on the 4th.
