Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Iona Prep Gaels walked away with it. They blew past Kellenberg Memorial 49-19 at home. The win was nothing new for Iona Prep as they're now sitting on four straight.
Iona Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Steven Dowdy jr out in front who picked up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Dowdy jr was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 69 yards. Another player making a difference was Joey Gaston, who threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Although Kellenberg Memorial took the loss, they still got scores from Christian Dacosta, Luca Carusone, and Jack Geoghan.
The team lost despite holding Iona Prep to a paltry 244 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Kellenberg Memorial's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Ryan Galla and his two sacks.
Iona Prep has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Kellenberg Memorial, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Iona Prep will be playing at home against Monsignor Farrell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monsignor Farrell is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Kellenberg Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
