The Clay City Eels posted their biggest win since November 10, 2023 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 50-29 margin over Dugger Union. Given Clay City's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Dugger Union is ranked 696th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lulu Koehler continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring eight points along with nine steals and five assists. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailyn Kirkling, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brae Simpson, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Smith, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
The victory was the third in a row for Clay City, bringing their record for this year to 9-12. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Dugger Union, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay City on the road again on Tuesday and play against Northview at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Dugger Union, they will square off against Martinsville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Martinsville is on an eight-game streak of home losses, Dugger Union a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
