Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elgin). Everything went their way against the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets on Wednesday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Madison Hill and Kendall Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hill pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Allen tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Hill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hill scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Allen scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Allen a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracelyn Edmonstone, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Cadence Metzger also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The victory made it two in a row for Elgin and bumps their season record up to 3-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Cory-Rawson, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elgin will face off against Cardington-Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cory-Rawson, they will square off against Continental at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
