The Clay Eagles will square off against the Perkins Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Clay will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Clay is returning to their home field after beating Perrysburg on theirs, despite the fact Perrysburg has dominated at home this season. The Eagles walked away with a 7-2 win over the Yellow Jackets on Friday.

Bryce Besgrove made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, George Edwards looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Brannan Vargas was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
Perkins came out on top against Edison on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Pirates took their match against the Chargers 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Like Clay, Perkins also got a great game from a two-way player: Braxden Martin. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Martin was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Perkins let Dylan Crabtree and Blake Parker run wild. Crabtree got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while Parker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Clay's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Perkins, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
Clay skirted past Perkins 6-5 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
