The Merit Preparatory Academy Knights had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 68-62 W over Freedom Prep Academy on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Merit Preparatory Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ayden Martinez led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Martinez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Harrison Petersen was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Merit Preparatory Academy's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Freedom Prep Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing American Prep WV the next time they take the court. Merit Preparatory Academy will host American Prep WV at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Freedom Prep Academy will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
