Kelso and Mountain View are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Hilanders will venture away from home to take on the Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kelso will be strutting in after a win while Mountain View will be coming in after a defeat.
Kelso will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Prairie, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hilanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Falcons on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilanders have posted since May 18, 2024.
Kylie Killett tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kalli Carter, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Peyton Champagne also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Mountain View suffered their closest loss since April 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Heritage by a score of 5-3. The Thunder haven't had much luck with the Timberwolves recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Mountain View saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Palomino, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Kelso's record is now 6-4. As for Mountain View, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kelso has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Kelso's way against Mountain View in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Kelso made off with a 22-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
