Pickens is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Greenwood is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pickens Blue Flame will take on the Greenwood Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Pickens is ranked ninth, while Greenwood is ranked fifth).
Last Wednesday, Pickens came up short against Westside and fell 39-29. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pickens has scored all season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Hannah Campbell, who scored five points along with two steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Owens, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Greenwood gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 52-24 victory over Laurens. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Greenwood has posted since November 29, 2023.
Danielle Oliver and Ty Johnson were among the main playmakers for Greenwood as the former scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cameron Oliver, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Pickens' defeat ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-2. As for Greenwood, their victory bumped their record up to 16-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pickens have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Greenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 27.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Pickens against Greenwood in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 54-25 victory. Does Pickens have another victory up their sleeve, or will Greenwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
