Javier Alvarado made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Alvarado wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Nemecek, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Lucas Wisehart also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Dobson had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Camelback 17-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Like McClintock, Dobson also got a great game from a two-way player: Tristin Watson. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Watson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Dobson: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brenston Velasquez and Brody Dobson did most of the damage at the plate: Velasquez scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Dobson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Velasquez is becoming a predictor of Dobson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Cristian Renderos was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Dobson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Dobson's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for McClintock, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
McClintock couldn't quite finish off Dobson in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will McClintock have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
