DePaul College Prep hasn't had much luck against Aurora Central Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rams will square off against the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
DePaul College Prep barely beat Trinity the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams' pitcher stepped up to hand the Blazers a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Blazers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Kylie Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Grace Balzarini, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: DePaul College Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity only managed four hits.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Aurora Central Catholic and IC Catholic Prep meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Chargers blew past the Knights 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Corina Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.
At the plate, Addison McCarty was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Vaghy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
DePaul College Prep pushed their record up to 9-18 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Aurora Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
