Gateway hasn't had much luck against Westminster recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Olympians will be playing at home against the Wolves at 10:00 a.m. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Gateway took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Skyview as they made off with a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Olympians, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Yanndy Aguayo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 14 hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Gateway let Jakob Petersen and Heber Almeida run wild. Petersen went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Almeida got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Almeida is becoming a predictor of Gateway's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Colt Wenzel, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Gateway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Westminster can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They walked away with a 13-8 win over Northglenn. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wolves' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
The team relied heavily on Adrian Moreno, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBI.
Westminster's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gateway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Westminster struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
