Surry Central took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 16-6 margin over the Alleghany Trojans. The victory was some much needed relief for the Golden Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Jaycee Dalton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Dalton was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three home runs, nine RBI, and five runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Emmerson Martin was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Layla Wall was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.
