The John Champe Knights had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.4 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 55-54 victory over Broad Run. Given John Champe's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Broad Run is ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
John Champe was led to victory by Greg Spiller and Tyler Kann. Spiller rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, while Kann rushed for 42 yards and three touchdowns. Dawon Harvey jr also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Broad Run still got an impressive performance from Aslin Shipe, who rushed for 323 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Shipe is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Sidhu, who rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown.
John Champe's victory was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. As for Broad Run, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
John Champe will look to defend their home field on Friday against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. As for Broad Run, they will head out on the road to face off against Tuscarora at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tuscarora is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
