Woodson and Fairfax are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Woodson Cavaliers just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Fairfax Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.
Woodson is likely headed into the match with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against West Potomac on Monday. Woodson fell just short of West Potomac by a score of 37-35. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cavaliers came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Wolverines are ranked 119th).

Despite the defeat, Woodson had strong showings from Kaylen Chilton, who posted 11 points along with five boards and four steals, and William Taylor, who put up three points in addition to six rebounds and six blocks. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kollin Morgan, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Fairfax was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 59-49 to West Potomac.
Woodson will have to contain Cam Yingling as he made an impact in Fairfax's last game. He went 7 of 12 en route to 20 points and eight boards. Jackson Young was another key player, putting up seven points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Woodson's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 18-3. As for Fairfax, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Woodson has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Fairfax struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Woodson beat Fairfax 47-35 in their previous matchup back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Woodson since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
