The Primero Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Holly Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Primero scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They blew past Walsh 58-25 at home. That 33 points margin sets a new team best for Primero this season.
Isabela Maldonado and Aimee Mincic were among the main playmakers for Primero as the former scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals and the latter scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mincic has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaleysia Atkins, who scored 11 points.
Holly can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They put the hurt on Crowley County with a sharp 42-18 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Holly has posted against Crowley County since January 31, 2020.
Holly relied on the efforts of Josie Kissell, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and six steals, and Averee Davis, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Davis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Anayi Cerros was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Primero's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Holly, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-6.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: Primero have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 30.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Holly, though, as they've only made 27.1% of their threes per game this season. Given Primero's sizeable advantage in that area, Holly will need to find a way to close that gap.
Primero was taken down by Holly 71-18 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Primero, Nadia Cerros (who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, nine rebounds, and 11 steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
