It was a good run, but the Zion Chapel Rebels unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 50-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Luverne. Zion Chapel was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Luverne apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Zion Chapel's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Stuart, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Stuart hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Slade Grantham was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds.
Zion Chapel's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Luverne, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5.
Zion Chapel will head out on the road to face off against Highland Home at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Highland Home is ranked 153rd, while Zion Chapel is ranked 144th). As for Luverne, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pike Liberal Arts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pike Liberal Arts is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
