The Broughton Capitals are on the road again on Friday and plays the Sanderson Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Broughton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Sanderson likes a good challenge.
Broughton pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The contest between them and Cardinal Gibbons wasn't particularly close, with Broughton falling 73-55. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 65th).
Despite the loss, Broughton got a solid performance out of Jordan Page, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Page has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Harrison Peatross was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Broughton struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Sanderson proved on Tuesday. They blew past Enloe 58-33. 58 seems to be a good number for Sanderson as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Nathan Fife and Patrick Dalton were among the main playmakers for Sanderson as the former scored 21 points and the latter shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Fife has scored at least a third of Sanderson's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gordie Balas, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Sanderson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Broughton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.3 points per game. However, it's not like Sanderson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 59 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Broughton came up short against Sanderson in their previous matchup back in January, falling 63-54. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fife, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Now that Broughton knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
