The Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs will square off against the Augusta Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Melrose-Mindoro's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Augusta has been banged up by 12 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Melrose-Mindoro is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Pepin/Alma on Tuesday as they made off with a 20-2 win. Considering the Mustangs have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Thesing made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eric Herzberg was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brett Peterson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
Melrose-Mindoro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Augusta came up short against Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday and fell 8-5.
Bryce Buttke was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season.
Augusta's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Melrose-Mindoro, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Everything went Melrose-Mindoro's way against Augusta in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Melrose-Mindoro made off with an 18-4 win. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Beavers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
