Tri-River recap Sept. 26, 2012
Clovis North extended the longest winning streak in Tri-River this week by beating Merced, 48-26. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Clovis West moved up to 212 from 301 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Golden Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-12 win over Bullard.
Buchanan's dynamic duo of Tyler Fry and Scott Sakamoto proved tough for Bakersfield to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Fry threw for 289 yards and one touchdown and Sakamoto had 117 yards receiving. Adam Soesman helped Buchanan's passing attack out by catching three balls for 67 yards.
Marlon Watkins was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 59 yards as Clovis fell to the Drillers. Teammate Adrian Salas added to the ground attack by rushing for 29 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Fry and Billy East Buchanan has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Fry leads the league in passing with 881 yards, while East has rushed for 375 yards this season. The Cougars' Logan Poisall leads the league in receiving yards with 317 on 29 catches.
Clovis and Atwater played the most hotly contested game in Tri-River this week, with Clovis eventually emerging with a 7-6 victory. Jake Gatewood threw for 198 yards and ran for 14 yards in the win.
